João Freitas

João Freitas, born in Porto in 1997, attended the?Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Painting (2019). He was an advisor for the Escola Artistica Soares dos Reis, hosting workshops on charcoal drawings and oil painting. João has participated?in numerous collective and solo exhibitions, some of which were held internationally such as Brazil in 2019. Currently, he is a resident artist at the O.estúdio collective in?Bonfim, Porto, Portugal.

 

 

 

In his works, João uses color as his method and focuses on painting as a processual practice instead of a conceptional one. In this practice, he investigates the various ways in which color communicates?with itself, different supports, and techniques. João expresses these personal searches through the medium of oil paint on canvas, where he is able to better understand?the intricate?dialogues between color combinations, scale, and formats. Transparency and opacity also play a key role in the overlaying of shapes and colors, creating compositions of negative spaces within the paintings. Through?João's persistent exploration of these methods, his works are constantly changing and evolving.
