A live painting performance with audience participation.
Alberto Reguera invited the audience at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa to become part of his creative process. In the museum’s magnificent galleries, he expanded an autumn landscape in a live painting performance watched by dozens of guests, marking the first presentation of his work in Canada.
With the support of the Spanish Embassy in Ottawa, Alberto Reguera presented “An Ephemeral Vision of Canada’s Four Seasons”, a project that invites us to explore Canada’s landscapes through his imagination. The four wonderful paintings in the series were brought together for a private event celebrating Spain’s National Day.
“Imagining the Canadian Autumn” was the starting point for the performance. Reguera extended the painting across a larger blank canvas, allowing the landscape to grow beyond its original boundaries and give form to what he calls the “aura of painting”: the feelings each work evokes beyond its physical presence.
As the new work took shape, the audience became part of its creation. Reguera describes their attention as an “active silence” that influences how the painting develops. A ritual usually reserved for the privacy of the studio became a shared experience, unique to that moment.
Congratulations, Alberto!
